What Do The Best Staircase Designs Include?

03 . 12 . 2012

The stairs that we use to traverse between the levels of our home can be constructed in a number of different styles and designs, depending on the function of the flight and the decor of the building. Whilst what one person considers 'good' is often different to another person’s definition, it is true that the 'best' staircase designs include the following:

  • Safety – The best staircases always strictly adhere to health and safety regulations, as well as what the intended users of the flight would consider 'safe' (for example, adults need less support then children).
  • Design – The design of the staircase must ensure that it fits seamlessly into the space; spiral stairs may be more appropriate for one home, whilst running along a wall is better for another.
  • Style – In many respects, the style of the staircase design plays a large role in determining its quality. A modest design can often be the most striking, whereas ornate ones can also have a big impact.
  • Considerations – Keep in mind that what you consider to be the 'best' staircase could be utter insanity to your best friend; as long as it functions as intended, you're on the right track.

Providing that you can recognize each of the above points when viewing a staircase design, it will not matter whether you like it or not when determining whether it is the 'best' option for yours or a friend’s needs. As long as the stairs are safe, has a seamless design and a high quality style, then it should meet its ultimate function with ease.
