How To Paint Metal Balustrading In Melbourne

15 . 02 . 2013

The decision to use metal balustrading in Melbourne over other materials is often made because metal tends to appear much more modern and is very easy to work into a range of decors. One way that you can blend your balustrading and your decor is by painting the metal in a colour that has been used elsewhere in the room or home.

Step 1: Thoroughly clean the balustrading using an ammonia-based cleaner; this will remove any oils or residue that has been left on the metal. If you notice any rusted areas, now is the time to remove it with a steel bristled brush.

Step 2: Use a medium grit sandpaper to go over the balustrading; this will remove any rust that you have failed to notice and will create a texture in the metal for the primer to adhere to.

Step 3: Apply an even coat of primer (one that has been designed for smooth surfaces) to balustrading in Melbourne. Apply two or three coats, as this will be more effective than a single thick coat.

Step 4: Apply an even coat of paint to the metal using thin strokes. Try to use enough paint that you cannot see individual strokes but not too much that it pools and puddles. Apply two coats for best results.

Whilst there has long been a belief that metal balustrading in Melbourne cannot be painted, the above information should have proven this wrong. Just make sure that you have properly prepared the metal surface of your balustrading and that you are using primers and paints that have been specially designed for use with the metal you have chosen.
