How To Decorate Your Spiral Stairs

04 . 10 . 2012

Whilst spiral stairs tend to be decorative enough – after all, they curve around in quite an attractive manner and are often fitted with ornate balusters and handrails – many homeowners are often on the lookout for alternative ways of adding their own personal touch. By using any number of the decorative tips supplied below, you can really inject your stairs with a touch of your personality that would not otherwise exist:

  • Place candles or small potted plants on each step, providing that the treads are wide enough to accommodate these items plus everyday foot traffic.
  • Hang garlands on the handrails. Flower garlands (artificial, of course) can work all year round. You could also go with an upcoming holiday, like tinsel and fairy light for Christmas.
  • Hang picture frames on the walls if your spiral stairs pass close enough to one. You could put family photographs in identical frames or choose some landscapes from past holidays.
  • Hang paintings on the wall if you would like to add a less personal touch to the space. These could be artworks that you have purchased or ones that you have made yourself.
  • Place a large potted plant or floor vase on the floor either close to the top or the bottom step. You could but flowers or branches in the vase or leave it bare.

If you have pets or young children in your home, it is recommended that you don’t place objects on the treads of the stairs themselves, as this could cause accidents and injuries. If you really like the look of candles illuminating your spiral stairs, you could just put them out on special occasions when it is likely that the kids won’t be rushing up and down them.
